Internal rules of kindergarten Kalli-kalli

1. General information

  • Kalli-kalli kindergarten acts under the Estonian Preschool Education Law, the kindergarten curriculum, development plan and statutes as well as the other legal acts regulating the activities of preschool child care institutions.
  • The organization of learning and teaching of Kalli-kalli kindergarten is based on the curriculum of the kindergarten which is in line with the national curriculum for preschool child care institutions.
  • Group activities are based on the daily schedule.
  • Learning and teaching is conducted based on the principles of the project-based, language immersion and Montessori teaching methodology.

2. Cooperation with parents

  • Communication between kindergarten staff and parents is polite and respectful. Good cooperation between parents and group teachers is the basis for children's adaptation and ensuring a sense of security for the child in kindergarten. This in turn promotes the child's all-round development.
  • If you are not satisfied with something tell it openly to the group teacher first.  Feel free to contact the group teacher, music teacher and management for help and advice.
  • Each family receives up to two chips to open doors and gates to enter the kindergarten. If your family has lost one of them please notify the kindergarten management immediately. The kindergarten does not want to issue more than two chips per family.
  • Information and notifications about events and current topics at the kindergarten will be sent to you in the Eliis environment.
  • Parents must monitor the information in the letters sent by the group (Friday letters) and the information sent by the kindergarten management. Information is provided via the Eliis environment or e-mail.
  • It is a tradition of our kindergarten that each group sends parents an information letter summarizing the week ending and introducing the new week. The letter is sent every Friday.
  • To support the child's individual development the group teachers hold parent-teacher meetings with parents in the spring and autumn.
  • If your address, phone number or e-mail address changes please inform of it your teachers and the management.
  • Please check the kindergarten website www.kalli.ee. FB: Kalli-kalli lasteaed.
  • To ensure good cooperation between the family and the kindergarten we ask you to participate in parent-teacher meetings, kindergarten parents' meetings and events. We hope that both parents of the child can participate.
  • We appreciate when our  parents are open and cooperative and if possible participate in group trips and other activities.
  • During parties and events that take place with parents the parent is responsible for the child's safety and behavior (except during the performance) and ensures that the child's activities do not disturb other participants and that the children are kept safe.
  • When you have picked up your child from kindergarten we ask you to leave the kindergarten's outdoor area after the child has finished playing so that the staff have a better overview of the children who have not yet been picked up by the parent.
  • Disagreements between children in the group are resolved with the help of the teacher. The parent does not turn to other children to explain the situation.
  • The costs associated with kindergarten are fixed in the contract between the parent and the kindergarten.
3. Bringing and picking up the child

  • Please notify the group before 9:00 in the morning if your child will not be coming to kindergarten. Please mark your child as absent in Eliis. Otherwise Eliis will automatically mark your child as present.
  • The kindergarten groups are open from 8.00-17.30. The aftercare group for kindergarten groups’ children is open from 17.30-18.30. The daycare groups are open from 8.30-17.30.
  • When you come to the kindergarten in the morning, please take enough time for bringing your child to the group room and for personally delivering the child to the teacher.
  • Please tell the teacher of anything what may influence your child’s day (e.g. bad sleep, health problems etc.), so teachers can understand your child better.
  • If you want your child to have breakfast at the kindergarten, please be present at 8.30 at the latest.
  • Please arrive at least 15 minutes earlier to parties or other events in the kindergarten.
  • Please value the teacher’s time, i.e. please come to pick up the child at least 15 minutes before closing of the kindergarten and do not leave without taking contact with the teacher.
  • The kindergarten is closed at 18.00. If you are going to be late to pick up your child, please inform your group teacher.
  • In the interest of your child and in order to prevent the spread of viruses please do not bring your child to the kindergarten when he/she is ill. A child brought to the kindergarten must be in such a health condition that he/she is able to participate in all activities of the kindergarten.
  • If the parent does not pick up the child before the group or aftercare is closed, the evening care service will be applied where the cost is 15€ every new half an hour.

4. Diseases

  • In the interests of your child's health and to prevent the spread of diseases only bring healthy children to kindergarten. We ask that children with obvious signs of illness not be brought to kindergarten (runny nose, cough, fever, etc.). A child who comes to kindergarten is healthy enough to participate in all activities (physical education class, being outdoors). A recently ill child will stay home for at least four days after the illness has ended.
  • A kindergarten employee has the right to refuse to accept a child with signs of illness into the group.
  • A child will not be admitted to the childcare facility if the child's health condition may harm the child's own health or the health of others.
  • Inform the teacher if your child has allergies or health conditions that require monitoring.
  • The group teacher will not give medication brought by a parent to kindergarten, nor will he or she allow the child to take/apply it on their own. Medication is permitted in exceptional cases in the case of chronic diseases according to a doctor's prescription.
  • If your child becomes ill in kindergarten you will be contacted immediately. If a child becomes ill we ask that they come to pick up their child as soon as possible.
  • If a child becomes ill with an infectious disease the parent must notify the teacher as soon as possible.
5. Ensuring safety

  • The construction, dimensions and surface finish of the play and exercise equipment used in the kindergarten correspond to the age and growth of the child.
  • The kindergarten employees create a physically and psychosocially safe and secure environment in the kindergarten which offers children various play, learning and creative activities and opportunities to promote physical activity. We always work to create the best possible development and growth environment for children!
  • A child may only leave the kindergarten premises or territory with an adult.
  • At least one group employee is with the children while they are resting or sleeping.
  • We value coming to the kindergarten by bike, but we ask that scooters and bicycles not be ridden in the kindergarten's yard. Bicycles can be stored in the designated place in the kindergarten's yard. We wear a helmet and also direct a friend to do it!
  • When moving on the street during the study trips children wear reflective vests.
  • In agreement with the parents the group staff takes pictures of the children's daily activities and also of their learning activities uploading them to the Eliis environment. These pictures (of other children) may not be shared on social media or distributed for any other purpose on any other platform. Each family's own pictures are for their own use only.
  • The teacher may not hand over the child to a parent/person who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The teacher will notify the other parent. If the other parent is absent another person close to the child is notified and if needed a child protection specialist is involved.
  •  Please notify us in writing or tell us when you bring the child in the morning if someone other than the mother or father will pick up the child in the evening. Without notification the teacher does not have the right to hand over the child to a third person.
  • If a child becomes ill or injured in kindergarten the kindergarten staff will call an ambulance if necessary and will contact the child's parent. The child will be with the kindergarten staff until the parent or ambulance arrives. If necessary a sick or injured child will be given first aid until the ambulance arrives.
  • Unauthorized presence of strangers on the territory and premises of the kindergarten without prior agreement is not allowed.
  • Parents, kindergarten employees and children carefully close the gate behind them so that children cannot leave the kindergarten territory.
  • The key person in bullying prevention in kindergarten is the teacher who is the creator of friendly and supportive relationships between themselves, children, parents and colleagues. Please inform the group employees and/or the director of any problems or worrying incidents.

6. Clothing

  • The child's clothes must be as safe as possible - long cords, scarves, etc. should be avoided.
  • The child needs clothes that are suitable for the weather all day long. Of course you know your child's specific needs best and can provide the child with suitable clothes.
  • Please bring your child to kindergarten with clean and proper shoes and clothes. A set of spare of shoes and clothes is required. The group teacher will provide detailed information.
  • During the summer period a light hat is required for outdoors to protect the child from the sun.
  • With rainy weather the child must bring rubber boots and waterproof clothing.
  • All children and groups in kindergarten participate in outdoor activities and spend at least 1.5 hours outdoors during the day. If the child cannot go outdoors for health reasons he or she will stay home until he or she is fully recovered.
  • With cooler weather bring water-proof gloves.  Mittens can be given to a child who can put them on independently.
  • To prevent clothes and shoes from being lost we recommend that they be marked with the child's name. Lost clothes and shoes are collected in a special box.
  • We require indoor shoes which the child should be able to put on and take off by himself/herself. Indoor shoes that can be fastened with snaps are recommended.
  • The best clothing for playing outside is that which allows the child to move around freely, have fun and participate in activities they like. Getting dirty is a natural part of childhood!

7. Meals
  • There are three meals a day in kindergarten: breakfast, lunch and evening snack. Our menu is varied and you can choose from different menu options. We ask you to discuss the menu selection with the group staff.
  • The menu can be found on the kindergarten website. Teachers often send the menu as an attachment to the Friday letter. You can also find the menu on the dining hall door.
  • Please inform the group teachers if your child is allergic to any food.

8. Birthdays

  • In the kindergarten, we celebrate children's birthdays with a joint singing circle and lighting candles. Traditions for celebrating birthdays vary between groups. You can get more detailed information from the teachers in your group.
  • If desired the birthday child can treat other children with sweets or fruits (preferable) taking into account the number of children in the group.
  • Chewing gum is not allowed in the kindergarten.
  • Nuts and foods containing nuts are prohibited in the kindergarten to prevent dangerous allergic reactions.
  • If you bring sweets, please consider the children in the entire group. Sweets are allowed only with the permission of the group teacher. The parent must hand over the sweets to the teacher in the morning to avoid the risk of the allergic child eating dangerous food (e.g. nuts, dairy products).

9. Toys
  • Books and board games can be brought to the kindergarten. Toys can be brought according to the instructions of the group teacher.
  • When bringing your own toy the principle applies: "if I don't want to share my toy, I'd better leave it at home or in the wardrobe".
  • Pistols, swords, knives and other toys that encourage aggressive play are not allowed to be brought to the kindergarten.
  • Parents must know what their child has with him/her.
  • We do not bring mobile phones, smart watches, video recording devices and jewelry to kindergarten!
  • It is good if the toy has some kind of identification mark that can be used to identify its owner.
  • The teacher is not responsible for the loss or breakage of toys and other personal belongings. The parent will help find the lost toy.
